After Windshield Replacement
On most newer cars, the forward camera is mounted to the windshield. A new windshield moves the camera onto new glass, so it needs calibrating to its new position, much the same way it does after the car's stance or ride height changes.
Collision or Fender-Bender
Hitting a deep pothole or curb can also knock the front bumper or radar bracket, and adaptive cruise may then misjudge gaps or brake for nothing on I-45 and the 610 Loop.
After Suspension or Alignment Work
An alignment, new struts or tires changes the car's thrust angle and ride height, so the camera reads the road from a new angle.
After Camera or Sensor Replacement
If a sensor was replaced during suspension or front-end work, a qualified repair facility installs and programs it first. We calibrate it afterward so it aims where the maker specifies.
